Connection authentication

Hi, is there a way to make so photon checks if the game version is the correct one before allowing a client to connect ?
Right now, every build I made of my game can connect to the photon servers but I don't really want to allow alpha builds to do that, I would like to restrict it only to the right game version.

I have seen the tutorial about custom authentication but i'm not quite sure to understand it. Do I really need to make my own server to be able to do this ?
